What "Verified" means on WoofSpots
We hold "Verified" to a deliberately narrow bar — one that's honest, non-manipulable, and can grow as we add stronger signals over time.
Today, Verified = email-confirmed owner claim
A facility is marked "Verified by owner" when someone with control of the business email address has claimed the listing and confirmed the claim via a magic-link email. Nothing more, nothing less.
What Verified means
- • The person managing this listing has access to the facility's business email
- • Contact info and hours have been reviewed by an actual person on the ground
- • If something changes at the facility, the owner can update it
What Verified does NOT mean
- • Not an endorsement of quality, safety, or care standards
- • Not an editorial recommendation
- • Not something the facility can pay to buy
- • Not a substitute for reading reviews and visiting in person
Why the bar is narrow (and honest about it)
Trust cannot be manufactured. A lot of directory sites treat "Verified" as a marketing label — sometimes it means the listing exists in a database, sometimes it means the facility paid for the badge. Neither is what most pet parents assume they're seeing.
We chose email confirmation because it's the smallest step that produces a real signal: someone with access to the facility's business email account clicked a link. That signal is:
- • Verifiable — the record of the click exists
- • Non-manipulable — no one can grant this to a facility they don't control
- • Honest about its own limits — it doesn't pretend to be more than it is
Stronger signals we're adding over time
As facilities join and use the platform, additional trust signals stack on top of the base Verified layer — each one shown separately so you always know exactly what's been confirmed:
- 1Phone-verified — call to the business number confirms the claim
- 2Response-verified — facility consistently responds to pet-parent inquiries within a stated window
- 3Booking-verified — real customers have booked, paid, and left reviews through our platform
Each layer is shown separately — we won't roll them up into a single "trust score" that hides what's actually been confirmed.
